Laughter-The Best Business
While we think that productivity is about taking control of our time, it is every bit as much about relaxing our minds so that we can focus and be creative - key components of a successful business. Humor is another way to put you in that state of mind.
Humor relaxes our brains; ideas flow easier with a relaxed brain. Daniel Goldman, author of Emotional Intelligence, conducted a study with the Hay Group which showed that within an organization, the most effective leaders were funny. They had their charges laughing 3 times as much as their managerial counterparts.
According to Jim Pelley, of Laughter Works Seminars, humor opens up our minds because it challenges us to "unthink" what we already know. Humor presents us with the unexpected. Do you ever know the answer to any "Why did the Chicken Cross the Road" jokes?
Think about it. How do you feel after you have had one of those: laughing so hard, no sound coming out of your mouth, breathing has stopped, face contorted, laughing spells? Did you feel like jelly, totally spent? If your body was relaxed, your mind was also.
If you are looking to laugh, here are some ideas for you to get a dose of "funny":
• See a Madea movie,
• Buy a Gary Larson calendar
• Go to a comedy club
• Call a funny friend (if you haven't got one, make a new friend)
So, when you have days that feel like a 5 ton rhinocerous has been chasing you, your heart is pounding and your mind is racing, find something that will get you laughing. It will improve your business.
