I always knew that one strategy for making decisions easier is to hold them against our goals, but last week, I had a reminder from an unlikely source.
My daughter had an acting class one Saturday when the opportunity arose for her to audition for the Rivercats (our local baseball team) to sing our National Anthem. They could only schedule her audtion during the time of the acting class. When I asked her which she wanted to do, she replied with no hesitation "I want to be an actor, not a singer, so I'm going to the acting class".
How nice it would be if we all could be so clear. If I have a goal of 4 paid speaking events a month, does time spent at a particular networking group help move me toward that goal or is my time better spent researching and submitting to events where I can be the speaker? Will investing in a marketing program achieve better results than if I invested in a personal coach? Which is the better choice to achieve my goal?
For each decision, hold it against your goals and see which moves you faster in that direction. You'll hit a home run everytime!
